Using Heat-Treated Pallets For Your Business

Blog

Pallets are basic tools that your business may need to use on a daily basis. However, if you need to purchase a large number of pallets for your business, there are some basic questions that you may need to answer to avoid some common mistakes or problems with these components.

How Can Heat Treating Pallets Enhance Them?

When you are choosing new pallets for your enterprise, it can be extremely beneficial to choose pallets that have been treated with heat and pressure. This process will dramatically improve the durability of the pallets by strengthening the wood. Additionally, this process will drastically reduce the risk of the wood pallets developing mold or fungal growth. These advantages can make heat-treated pallets a sound investment for a business.

Will Heat-Treated Pallets Need To Be Treated Again In The Future?

Individuals that are responsible for providing a business with wood pallets will want to choose an option that is as low maintenance as possible. A common assumption about heat-treated pallets is that they will need to be periodically treated in order to keep them protected. However, this is not the case, as heat-treating the pallets will only need to be done once. While the pallets will eventually need to be replaced, many businesses will find that these pallets can last for years before they need to be completely replaced.

What Should You Look For When Evaluating The Pallets Between Uses?

The pallets that your business is using should be periodically inspected for signs of damage or wear that may mean it is time for the pallets to be replaced. During these visual inspections, you should check for deep cracks that may have formed in the wood of the pallet. If you notice these cracks forming, you may want to replace the pallet immediately, as the items could suffer serious damage if these wood supports were to fail. Another potential issue that you should evaluate these pallets for is signs of rot. While heat treating the pallets can make them more durable, they will still be able to develop rot if they are exposed to moisture for long periods of time. For this reason, any pallets that are not needed should be stored in a dry area that will keep them safe from this potential source of damage. Additionally, you may have these pallets coated with a waterproof sealant that will be able to further protect the wood.
